The Heart of the Church

The churches in Ephesus and Laodicea have several things in common. They both have material wealth, they both are well-educated, they both have a lot of things going for them, and they both have let those things get in the way of their devotion to Jesus. In the letters that Jesus sends to both churches, we see that there is a stern warning for the Christians there to hear: you are about to lose your standing as a church. Because when Jesus comes to church, He looks at the heart of the church.
